How often do we talk to ourselves with the kind words that we speak to others? When do we start to take control of the positivity in our own lives?
Affirmations are simple, positive reminders of the things we need to hear. They are encouragement, motivation, and builders of confidence to help us realise our dreams.
Repeated often, they can become a spell that teaches us to love ourselves, believe in ourselves, take control and enable positive change.
My affirmations
For most of my life, I never questioned how I spoke to myself. If I ever dared to feel proud of myself for any reason, it always came with a healthy dose of defensive shame. If I’d ever heard someone else spoken to the way I spoke to myself, I’d have been horrified. But I thought the things I told myself were true. For 40 years.
Then, in 2019, as I was setting out on this journey with my fledgling business, someone told me “your thoughts are not facts”.
WHAT?
“You are not your thoughts…. your thoughts are like little butterflies. That little butterfly coming in with that negative thought, let it fly away. Replace it with a positive thought.” Gemma Went - Online Business Mentor
I drew a picture inspired by those words.
And I wrote my affirmations.
I believe I can be all that I want to be
I am kind, courageous and strong
my mind is full of brilliant ideas
Over the past months, I’ve been thinking of what my new affirmations could be, new word spells to light my path forward.
I have refreshed the picture I drew, put on my artsy dungarees, and here they are.
I am resourceful and resilient
I think, speak and act with kindness
I am worth the time it takes to create something amazing
They are a glorious celebration of the uplifting inspiration I have found on my journey so far.
What would your affirmations be? I’d love to hear them and be inspired by them too, and capture them in a beautiful personalised affirmation illustration, a unique and heartfelt gift for a friend or loved one, or for yourself.
