Others have already commented on this I loved: “What I do know, is that sometimes I write something that seems to come from a wild place. Somewhere that is both deep inside and far beyond, as if the words have risen from the fathomless depths of my soul and fallen, star bright, from some vast enchanted elsewhere.”
But I think this says more to me than a traditional about me page. 😇 keep writing enchanted ☺️
Thank you so much Ángel, for reading and for your kind comments. We’re all trying to fit in and stand out at the same time and it seems to me that who we are cannot be contained in 255 characters or les…
Oh thank goodness! I don’t want to read clear, well-packaged, shiny Substacks that have their ducks all in a row and all their 250 words (or whatever) just so. No, no no. I want to read wild, free, unexpected and from the heart (and soul) I’m so glad I found you❤️

I think that's all we need to know dear Emily, I am not a great lover of 'should' or 'have to', I don't remember the last time I even checked my about page!
Doesn't all writing come from the place between seeing and translating, reality and fantasy, it is not for defining or fitting into boxes. It is more like an apothecary where beautiful potions are mixed and handed out to anyone that has a mind willing to be opened in awe!
And you do this every time you create something from tiny felt mice to fictional tales of wonder that leave the imagination filled with magic and mystery!
What ever you do beautiful soul... you are doing it because you can't not do it! xxx
I’m so grateful for you dear Susie, thank you and yes, yes, yes! To all of this. I’ve never been one for shoulds and musts, and yet I’ve tried to follow the ‘rules’ here and define when and how and about what I will write, only to then not manage to follow through with any consistency. So this is my manifesto for just allowing what comes. Love the apothecary metaphor — so very fitting xx
Yes 🙌 I have given up on the shoulds and I am wondering why I didn’t do so a long time ago!
This is now my pinned ‘start here’ post, and my ‘While I Was Drawing’ story is my about page. It seems the best description of what this is all about 😊.
Some things defy description because there are no words sufficient to contain them.
I think that this applies to your work, Emily!
And anyway, I don’t think that a person’s ‘creativity’ can be squashed into a certain shaped box because creativity, by virtue of what it is, will always be fluid, shifting in nature, changing.
I feel as you do when write, in that sometimes things seem to come from a wild place - or a differing selection of wild places!
But when the words come, I am just grateful that they do!
Some things are beyond definition.
And some things disappear into nothing when questioned too closely.
Thank you for including these links to some of your previous posts.
Thank you Kay - you’re right, I think it applies to all of us. I’m glad this place gives us the space to get to know each other properly beyond profiles and bios x
Creativity can't be tamed and defined. It can't be neatly placed into categories with directions to buttons and calls to action.
I relate Emily. I gave up re writing my About Me and publication descriptions because I couldn't fit myself and my work into a box. It's why I gave my publication the name I did.
Creativity starts with the mystery of not knowing. And that is certainly a very good place to start!
All those links you mention, the words are familiar, I have read and loved them all. Keep doing all of it Emily!
Thank you Jo, I’m so glad to have your company on this adventure that we are all on called Life. I’ve written all the things you’re supposed to, followed the ‘rules’, but somehow they all feel a little too saccarine. I’m not all soft edges and sweet honey, and rules irritate me more and more the older I get! I love this “creativity starts with the mystery of not knowing” - yes, you’ve said that perfectly! And I actually don’t know if I ever read your about page or bio or even went to have a look, because your words speak for themselves and tell who you are without the need of contrivance…

We are from the “far beyond” 😇 and it is so nice to find the resonance within someone else’s voice. 😌 have a beautiful 🌈 day

This is such a gorgeous comment to read, Sumaya. I’m so glad to connect with you and grateful for your kind words ✨💛

I like this for your About Page!
And I think the first rule of “Every good Substack publication should…” is to not listen to the shoulds.
I would be saddened to try to fit you into a box, and your creativity shines brightly all the more because it can’t. ❤️

People are multi-dimensional, why can't your art or your Substack not be the same? Of course it can!
Yes!! Of course it can!! I thought it was time to update my start here post to say so 😊

I really enjoyed reading them.
Beauty beyond definition!

Yes, I agree that this does apply to all of us to a certain extent.
But here, I did mean you in particular Emily!
I don’t know of anyone who can do so many different things (not just your writing) so very well and so very beautifully.
Not only are you insanely talented- but you are also extremely modest!
"From a wild place." 💛

Thank you for being here. Much love xx
What! You're not all soft edges and sweet honey Emily! I'm shocked! 😀💛
Yes the beauty of age and wisdom is that we follow our heart and soul rather than anyone else's rules. Yay!!!!
Thank you for your words on my writing.
Much love from another beautiful misty inversion on a late autumn Saturday evening.
