Thank you for including me Emily! As I was sewing a skirt recently I was asking these very questions - but then realized that the hours spent creating are what matter the most to me. No matter how many times I wear the skirt, I have those hours of learning and growing and being blissfully in a flow state. It’s increasingly hard to get there in today’s hectic and fractious world, but making with my hands never fails to force the rest of the world to fall away and for time to just slide by.
I love your patchwork Katy, it’s beautiful! And you’re so right, it is increasingly hard to get into flow these days - learning to treasure those moments is so important 💛
This is a wonderful piece, Emily. I do ask the same question, too! But the call to create is too strong, so create we must. Your butterfly painting is beautiful - at first glance I thought it was a photograph🦋. Looking forward to see more of your magical works. And I thank you for including my avocado seeds in this read.🌿🩵
I’m so glad you enjoyed it Dadis. I drew the butterfly and then printed a copy to cut out and photographed it on a white sheet of paper - so both are true, a drawing and a photograph! I LOVE your carved avocado seeds so much, I have started collecting and drying them myself and hope to have a little try myself sometime. It was wonderful to find your creative soul and to include your artistry here 🩵
This was a delightful piece, thank you for sharing and making my Sunday evening a little less dreadful. The avocado pit carving kind of blew my mind and I really want to try that!
It’s amazing isn’t it Nico! I’ve been collecting avocado stones since I saw it to give it a try myself. I’m sorry that Sunday evenings aren’t a nice time for you 😔 I changed my job at the start of December and thankfully I don’t dread Mondays anymore, but for a while, Sunday evenings were filled with darkness and hopelessness. I hope that your week has some sunshine ☀️
Me neither. That's one of the reason I find your Substack so great. Lots of ways to express ones creativity and always a reminder that it's about the joy of creating. Beautiful.
I absolutely adore your hand made books Fiona, they are on my creative wish list. The colours and textures and soul of your creations is so beautiful, I always love seeing them.
I love this collection of creatives’ works Emily and I really resonate with your reverence and celebration of wildlife and nature. It’s so awesome and awe inspiring 🌹
Thank you for sharing this inspiring celebration of Creativity Emily.
I love your words about the WHY of creating - they all resonate so much:
"I draw as an act of reverence to wild beings and nature. To capture moments and memories, stories and songs, thoughts and feelings. To free my inner child to dance with the magic of her imagination."
Thank you Jo, I’ve been thinking about how to articulate why I feel this irresistible urge to draw and write and create but hadn’t managed to get it into words that felt like the right ones, until now 💛 I hope that you have had a beautiful weekend and sending wishes for a beautiful week ahead ✨
