Such a great summary of the "work" of a creative and that balance between marketing and doing the actual creative act itself which is where our true passion lies. I avoid marketing so tend to spend a lot of time being the only one to appreciate my creative genius!! 😉😆💛
May your words and pictures spread around the Universe Emily and bring joy to others and financial abundance to you! xx
Ah Jo! I am very appreciative of you and your creative genius! I think doing all the marketing stuff doesn’t guarantee anything anyway, so better to just do what we love 💛✨
I absolutely feel this too! Each piece of support from a like to a coffee or item from my wishlist or Redbubble shop is absolutely such a lift and spurs me on in my journey. If someone buys me a tube of paint then it sparks wanting to use that colour and new things emerge. I also want to send art to my pais subscribers and I put any supporters (who buy coffee/paint/Redbubble/subscription) in a draw for an original canvas painting. The thought of someone loving a piece of my art is an enormous and exciting thing! I love how you've written about this 💖
Thank you for reading and for your thoughtful comment ✨💛 it feels like such a conundrum and was hard to find the right balance of writing about the longing to make art and the desire to create more and the need for the community that surrounds it, even when it’s just for the joy x
I love that art can bring community and joy, it would be immensely useful to make some money from it but the joy it brings me is wonderful both from the actual creation of art but also from connections like this, and seeing other people's art 💖
Sometimes you feel like you're drowning in all the 'marketing' you're supposed to be doing, and still not, and run back into the studio to safety! I write music, that's where I'm happiest, but music must be the hardest to actually be paid! But, of course I cannot NOT write and create it lol! I do love painting watercolours, oils too, but save most of my time for music 🎶
The constant pull between creating and all the ‘should be doing’ can be so overwhelming. But then, as you say, we can’t not create, it’s who we are.
Music must be incredibly difficult to get paid for, but what a beautiful thing to spend most of your time on. Love that you also paint, it must be a completely different kind of creative space to step into when you need it. Do you find one influences the other? Thanks so much for reading and for your thoughtful comments Sally ✨💛
I guess I treat myself with painting not very often atm, I generally do a painting for a friend or family's birthday card, as I hate most cards I see nowadays to buy! I can't really do both all the time because of the hours of work needed in creating a music track!
I'm so sorry to be late reading this dear Emily, between the unwanted germs and uninvited guests over the weekend my time was all used up!
I can even feel the creativity you have put into every heartfelt word you've written here my lovely friend, and where your say, "Art is not meant to live in the dark. It is the continuation of a conversation. Writing comes alive when read. Music exists to be heard. A painting is meant to be seen." For you I feel it is doubly so! You have so many limbs to your creative tree, all blossoming and becoming and beautiful, you deserve to be seen, each twinkle of delight, gazed upon with joy and admiration!
I have just nipped over to your website again for a birthday coming up in April and found the perfect gift - expect an order over the weekend! I only wish I could do more for you 💛xxx
Oh Susie, my lovely friend, never apologise. Your words are always a gift in themselves, and this, this is like a beautifully wrapped bundle of kindness. It more than I can ever properly say. Unfortunately, since Brexit 😡, the rules on sending goods from the UK to Europe, even gifts to friends and family apparently (which may be why little mousey hasn’t found her way home) means they are subject to VAT and customs charges, so we can only sell within the UK 🥺.
And truly, you already do more than enough. Just knowing you’re here, reading, sharing, and being your wonderful, encouraging self is a gift in its own right. Thank you, always 💛 xxx
I peeked at your shop and those illustrations are STUNNING! I bookmarked the page so next time I want to gift a friend something original and special, I know where to go.

Thank you Kimberly 💛 I appreciate you so much. This was a hard post to write, thank you for reading, and for looking in our online shop. The pictures were such a labour of love xx
Love the mushrooms!

That’s such a lovely reason to paint Sally 💛
