Dear Emily, I am increasingly stunned not only by your incredible talents and versatility as said be Klamo below but by the amount of wondrous art you find time to create, all the while holding down a job and having a family to look after too... Please, please tell me your secrets for I am so very lost in this maze, I am in complete awe of you! 💛✨xx
I hardly know how to answer, dear Susie. Thanks you always, for your kind words. Doing creative things is something I just can’t seem to live without, so I squeeze in what I can when I can, and neglect everything that can reasonably be neglected (and possibly some things that are less reasonable to neglect…!!) 😳💛✨
I’m glad that you do 💛 your words are a balm to my soul. I remind myself that when I reach the end of my time on this earth, if it transpires that I have opportunity to reflect on how I spent my time, I know I won’t be thinking I should have spent more time on admin, cooking, cleaning or washing!! Xx
I like this Emily, I was thinking about the end of my life yesterday, not in a sad way, more in a Mary Oliver way, I’m sure you know this poem but I will pop it below anyway…
When death comes
like the hungry bear in autumn;
when death comes and takes all the bright coins from his purse
to buy me, and snaps the purse shut;
when death comes
like the measle-pox;
when death comes
like an iceberg between the shoulder blades,
I want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering:
what is it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?
And therefore I look upon everything
as a brotherhood and a sisterhood,
and I look upon time as no more than an idea,
and I consider eternity as another possibility,
and I think of each life as a flower, as common
as a field daisy, and as singular,
and each name a comfortable music in the mouth,
tending, as all music does, toward silence,
and each body a lion of courage, and something
precious to the earth.
When it's over, I want to say: all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.
When it's over, I don't want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.
I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.
I don't want to end up simply having visited this world.
Congratulations, Emily. This is such a beautiful, generous act. Thank you for sharing your creations. You inspire me! And I'm thankful that we get to experience your art.
Such a beautiful collection. You ooze artistry and mastery in everything you do Emily. How special that you’re opening up your library so it may spark joy and creativity in others!
Kimberly, thank you so very much 💛 I need to do something with it all 🤣 I have so many drawings and photographs - I hope they might bring joy to others. One of my favourite quotes from Big Magic is “I am going to spend as much time as I can creating delightful things out of my existence, because that’s what brings me awake and that’s what brings me alive.” I feel like it sums me up quite well!! Xx
I’m sure you thought of it already, but I could so see you illustrating children’s books. I have a friend who has published a few and who knows, may be looking for an illustrator for her next?
It wasn’t something that I had considered when I was younger, but I have illustrated a children’s book that my friend and business partner wrote, that we published through our indie publishing company, Tree Keeper Books. We’re working on our next one now, although it is slow going when we both have other jobs too xx
Emily, you are so talented. I repeat what Klamo says here but it needs to be said again!
I just love what you do. Those colouring pages - could you please design and decorate my future cabin/ small home?! Everything you do is magic and full of love. Your photography and your little fairy creatures and and and!!!
Love the quote by the way.
I know nothing in the world that has as much power as a word. Sometimes I write one, and I look at it, until it begins to shine.”
— Emily Dickinson
Thank you for sharing Emily. I am sure you must be very rich and famous from all your creative work! And if not, then that will come to you, if it is what you want! xx❤️
Ah Jo! Thank you. I am rich in joy and gratitude and famous with the slugs and snails, which is the best kind of riches and fame, I think! I would be utterly delighted to draw a little cameo of your future home - the thing about drawing is, that if you can imagine it, it can exist - as my little tranquil scenes exist xx much love 💛✨
You are such a versatile and talented artist. I'm in awe.
You are so kind Klamo, thank you 💛✨

Ooh yes! I know all about turning my head and neglecting things too Emily, if I didn’t I’d never write a single word! 😂xx

Of course you have! If I ever write a children’s book, I know where to go. :)
